Our culinary director, Chef Barry Lofton, recently met with a local culinary class for a behind-the-scenes look at Black Walnut Cafe!
Hauke High School teacher, Lauren Gray, and her four students from her culinary arts class joined Chef Barry for a tour of our Conroe location, located on the third floor of Galaxy FBO at the Conroe-North Regional Airport.
Chef Barry explained the ins and outs of our kitchen, our partners’ key roles, discussed food preparation and safety and shared insight about his own culinary journey that led him to be our corporate chef!
After the tour, Chef Barry sat with the students over lunch and conversation to answer questions about all things food, creating recipes and pursuing their culinary passions after graduation.
The students started with Garlic Cheese Bread and Cockpit Queso before diving into lunch and enjoying our Lobster & Shrimp Mac and Flying Mahi Mahi Tacos.
We sincerely enjoyed having the opportunity to help educate and spark these Hauke High School students’ interest about the hospitality industry and life as a chef as they continue their classes and start their new chapters in college. Thank you to Ms. Gray and her class for spending the afternoon with us!
