Home News College Park’s Quentin Grimes Awards Gatorade…

2017-18 Gatorade Texas Boys Basketball Player of the Year, Quentin Grimes, recently awarded Play With Purpose a $1,000 grant as part of the Gatorade Play It Forward program.

Play With Purpose Sports is a nonprofit program that helps raise money for orphans, at-risk youth and children with cancer locally and worldwide. Founded by mother and son duo Karen and Hudson Boyd, the program uses statistics based on an athlete’s performance (points, assists, tackles, etc.) to raise these funds. Each participating athlete seeks pledges from sponsors based on their stats achieved in a game, tournament or competition. The program is also designed to help athletes develop selfless attitudes, leading them to make a difference in the world using their gifts.

During Play With Purpose’s Youth In Leadership event, held at Black Walnut, Grimes spoke with student athletes about leadership and motivation on and off the court.

Grimes is the first Gatorade Texas Boys Basketball Player of the Year to be chosen from The Woodlands College Park High School. The award recognizes outstanding athletic excellence, high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character on and off the field. As part of the program, he was able to select a national or local youth sports organization to receive Gatorade’s grant. Read more about Grimes and his feature in the Houston Chronicle here.
